Headwaters to Ocean Descent 2016
The Headwaters to Ocean Descent of the Russian River was comprised of three continuous paddle explorations where regional leaders paddled, ate & sleptalong the length of the River on public and private lands. The Descent traversed 100+ miles of the Russian River, through the rugged beauty of Mendocino and Sonoma Counties. For the duration of this ten-day journey, expedition participants shared meals, swapped experiences, and took in the power of the River itself, building age-old comradery and “can do” among people and across ideologies through shared time and place.
The Pacific Reach of the expedition ended at the mouth of the River Sunday, October 9th 2016 and included an invitation to ALL in our region interested in the river to join the final two days of paddling and camping as a community focused on the health of the River. The model of TrekSonoma — people traveling across the open landscape for multiple days without stepping into a motor vehicle — provided the foundation for this journey.
The Headwaters to Ocean Descent was 3 separate paddles over 8 weeks in 2016.
